Windows 8 is the next version of Microsoft Windows, a series of operating systems produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including PCs and business notebooks, tablet PCs and home theater. The release to manufacturing (RTM) is expected in August 2012, although Windows 8 will be available to users only after the general availability in October. [2] [3] [4] [5] Windows 8 server counterpart, Windows Server 2012, is in development at the same time as Windows 8. The most recent official pre-release version of Windows 8 is a preview release, which was published May 31, 2012.
According to the design team of Windows, Windows 8 has been "reinvented from the chipset to the user experience," [6] while Windows 7 was designed to be a more targeted approach, gradual upgrade of the line Windows. [7] Windows 8 features a new user interface based on the language of Microsoft Metro design, similar to Windows Phone.
